Christmas adaptation of a song done acappella by the late Janis Joplin. Originally titled Mercedes Benz, this festive rendition respects the themes of money, sex and alcohol, though the Christmas theme is dominant as is the idea of Christmas blues and somewhere it might be considered a funny song, or a form of Christmas humor. Regardless of age it is discomfiting to believe Santa is dead, no matter what we ask for. As we get older it becomes more important that Rudolph the red nosed reindeer does indeed fly.
As I can see from my own surfing, singing in the car is a highly popular means of self expression. It is an intergral part of car culture and is in fact extremely therapeutic. I prefer the acappella form because it permits the exploration of the emotional charge in the words, without being constrainted by instrumental limitations or another artists psycho-emotional interpretation.
Facial expressions convey much subliminal information and by synching them to the song greater substance is given to the performance.
And lastly I guess I’m saying Christmas is not, should not, and must not be about Money but about Love. In my mind Business, the heinous corporate citizen, has lost sight of this small but hightly significant fact, and rather than hear sleigh bells ringing and reindeer hoofs pawing in the snow, they thrill only to hear the clinking and tinkling of cash registers and the shlick-shlack of debit cards. And though I see flashes of glee and joy in the eyes of small children opening gifts they have been conditioned to desperately want, I see far more joy in the eyes of the Wall Street Scrooge’s world wide, who have bilked the population of hard earned money, they could ill afford to spend, in order to by baubles, brightly coloured plastic nothings which once open are often throw away as goodies of no real substance. Back even before my time, people made one another gifts, so this is my Christmas gift to you.

This song has been a long time favorite of mine, and this version from Kidzup is one of the Best, because only a child could know and tell us anything about it. This is an excerpt from a DVD I’m working on for next year (08). But these people at the Kidzup Foundation are working hard to help the under-privileged children around the world that I (and/or they) could not wait for year for this to be posted. So lets call this a sneak peek at what is to come.
